Low-cost-carriers in Austria
The airlines network in Austria is not as dense as in Germany, but there are increasing possibilities as the low-fare-carriers Aer Lingus, Air Berli, Niki, Brussels Airline, Condor, easyJet, Germanwings, Intersky and SkyEurope are also operating from the Vienna airport.
Best known are SkyEurope and NIKI (Air Berlin). The Slovakian airline SkyEurope with home-base in Bratislava offers also a number of destinations departing from Vienna. Bratislava, 70 km from Vienna, is an interesting alternative to the Airport Vienna-Schwechat, as the largest low-cost-carrier Ryanair also operates from Bratislava. This Lauda Air was taken over by Austrian Airlines in 2002. But in 2003 Lauda acquired the majority of Aero Loyd and started his airline NIKI, which cooperates with Air Berlin and is bookable under both websites.Low-fare-airlines are also departing from Salzburg, Linz, Graz, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt.
